Goals and outcomes:
Our main goal in this course will be to work towards oral fluency, therefore this will be primarily a French conversation course. We will be studying grammar, culture (wine, Art, and food), as well as reading and discussing Kiffe kiffe demain. This course will be as active and interactive as possible, which means that I expect everyone to throw themselves into the process as much as they can.
We must all be willing to make mistakes and (oftentimes) feel somewhat less than intelligent (this may very well be an understatement) as we grapple with a language that isn’t our native tongue. I expect everyone to push themselves a bit outside of their comfort zones, yet to be forgiving of themselves and of others as we learn together. After all, some of the best learning occurs when we make mistakes and can laugh about it afterwards. At the very least we should have some good stories to share because of it!
I also expect myself and my students to study diligently outside of the course so that we can focus upon actively using and applying our language skills in the classroom. I would like to focus on interacting as a class, in small groups or in pairs as much as possible during our class time. After all, we can study on our own all we want, but we can’t always have other speakers of French around to share our thoughts and selves with.
